David & Margaret strengthens and empowers children, young adults, and families through innovative and culturally respectful trauma-informed quality treatment, education, and supportive services to better their lives.
1910
First Bank President Henry Kuns completed the La Verne Hotel, which he started to build in 1892. He donates it to the Women's Home Missionary Society of the Methodist Church to be used as the area's first orphanage.
1925
The La Verne Hotel has fallen into disrepair. Mr. Kuns donates land and funds to build a safer facility for the orphans. That building was completed in 1925, and is known today as the Whitney Building.
1964
The youth begin to transition out of the Whitney Building and into residential cottages built on the property.
1989
The non-public Joan Macy School opens and serves residents. It soon expanded to serve residents and students from the surrounding districts.
1990
The Whitney Building is in part used as a store, offering the community discounted food and household items whose proceeds support David & Margaret programs.
2016
Cedar Springs Village opens, a certified Leeds Platinum community offering supportive housing and more to youth aging out of foster care.
2017
Dave & Maggie's Store and Café opens, providing internships for youth in our Workforce Training Program.
2020
COMPASS Point Drop-In Center opens, improving and expanding supportive services for Transitional Age Youth in our community.
2021
David & Margaret Youth and Family Services teams up with Haynes Family of Programs in support of children, youth, and families, expanding access to resources and services for thousands in our community.
