Serving Unaccompanied Minors in the US
David & Margaret Youth and Family Services' New Beginnings program is able to provide a safe, loving and home-like environment to a small number of children and youth, ages 6-17, coming into the country as they start a new chapter in their lives. The majority of these children and youth come to this country unaccompanied without their parents when their home country is no longer a viable option for them to live safely. The ultimate goal is to ensure the safety and well-being of these vulnerable children by providing them with the opportunity to have a carefree and happy childhood that all children deserve.
Our team is comprised of trained, experienced and educated staff who provide one on one individual case management reunification services for the children and youth on an ongoing basis. Together, we promote and encourage strong healthy family relationships and communication ties between the youth and their potential sponsors who are often family members. The youth are temporarily placed at D&M for a short period of time while they undergo their reunification process, during which their paperwork is vetted and potential sponsors are verified to ensure they are the responsible and caring adults they need to be to care for our youth successfully.
While in care our youth are supported by caring and loving staff who often speak their native language. They live in a safe, secure and nurturing environment and are equipped with the proper educational tools and life skills needed to be successful upon reunification and reintegration into our communities. Some of the services we provide include individual therapeutic counseling, group counseling, mental health services, medical services, education and vocational services, recreation and leisure activities including spiritual-religious activities that promote their physical and mental well-being.
David & Margaret’s mission to care for children who do not have anyone else to guide them is what brought the agency to do this work. D&M believes it is our duty and responsibility to help support, care for and provide a safe haven for these vulnerable children and youth who are seeking an opportunity for a new beginning.
