David & Margaret Youth and Family Services is pleased to announce new leadership for its Board of Directors. Bob Dalton was appointed board president at the board meeting held on August 3, 2020. Bob’s appointment comes as Sabina Sullivan completes her second term as board president. The board is responsible for the high-level leadership and decision-making for the organization, including determining its mission and purpose, providing financial oversight, ensuring legal and ethical integrity and accountability, strategic planning, and much more.
Retiring board president Sabina Sullivan shares “As David & Margaret Youth and Family Services continues to advance its vision and mission, I am excited to welcome Bob Dalton as our new board president. Bob brings a unique skill set, experience, and most importantly, passion for making a difference for children and families served by David & Margaret. I look forward to the ideas, guidance, and leadership he will bring to the role of board president.”
Bob Dalton first came to David & Margaret by way of Joan Macy School, - the agency’s non-public school. Bob joined the board of directors for the Joan Macy School shortly after he retired from the Central School District. Bob served on the Joan Macy Board for a total of nine years, seven of them as president. Bob has served on the David & Margaret board for the past six years and has served on multiple committees and task forces during that time including the program, finance, and executive committees.
Bob says “Volunteering as a board member at Joan Macy and at David & Margaret Youth and Family Services was a natural extension of my love of children and youth and my commitment to education which has been the driver of my life's work. As a former principal, I admired and marveled at the fact that the staff at JMS dealt lovingly with the children we were unable to reach in the public school system. I still am in awe of their heart and their skill. I am equally impressed by the commitment of the staff and my fellow board members at David & Margaret to the children, youth, young adults, and families whom we serve.”
Bob has embraced the agency’s mission, values, and philosophy of care to guide him in his board service over the years. In particular, this section of the philosophy of care reflects the values he will bring as he leads the organization:
David & Margaret’s programs are built around a person-centered philosophy recognizing that every person is wonderfully unique. We believe those we serve are the experts and key decision-makers in their recovery process and our mission is to support them in their life’s journey by working collaboratively with them, their community, and their family supports and resources. We do this, remaining committed to the important core values upon which we were founded. Among the most important of these are integrity, mutual respect, knowledge, teamwork, choice, and accountability, safety, and service.
When asked about what he hopes to accomplish in his tenure as board president Bob shared that his goals include strengthening the programs that most closely align with the agency’s mission and skill set, nurturing our relationships with stakeholders and community and continuing to foster the loving, safe and nurturing environment we provide for our participants at David & Margaret. He is also excited about and committed to the strategic planning process that is underway.
Bob will be leading the board of directors in partnership with the executive committee. The executive committee of the board for the upcoming term is completed as follows: Patricia Guild, Vice President; Susan Hume, Treasurer, and Kevin Kearney, Secretary.
