Getting the Support You NEED

In today’s ever-changing world, the value of emotional and social support cannot be overstated. Support groups have emerged as a vital resource for individuals navigating the challenges of foster care, offering benefits that extend far beyond traditional therapeutic approaches. David & Margaret and Serenity offer twice monthly support groups, one in-person and one virtual. To support our onboarding resource parents, we are starting a mentoring program to match established resource parents and newer resource parents, allowing them to walk hand-in-hand through the confusing world of foster care.

The benefits of support are many. One of the most profound benefits of support groups is the shared experience. Members come together with common challenges, whether dealing with challenging behaviors, confusing terminology, navigating changes, or loss. This shared understanding fosters a unique sense of empathy and connection that can be difficult to find elsewhere. It’s often said that “a problem shared is a problem halved,” and in support groups, this sentiment rings true as members offer insight, validation, and hope through their own experiences.

Our peer-led support groups are designed to provide a safe and confidential space for individuals to express their feelings and concerns without fear of judgment. This emotional safety net can be incredibly comforting, offering a reprieve from isolation and loneliness. Through the process of sharing and listening, members often find comfort and encouragement, which can significantly enhance their emotional resilience and overall well-being.

The world of foster care can often be isolating due to the lack of support or fear of judgment. Joining a support group can create a sense of belonging and community. For many, it’s an opportunity to connect with others who truly understand their journey, fostering friendships and networks of support.

We would love for you to join one of our support group sessions. They are held virtually from 6-8pm on the second Wednesday of the month and in-person from 10am-12pm on the fourth Wednesday of the month at the Serenity office located at 600 S. Grand Ave., Covina, CA.

With love,

Jami & Deena
